Sports people usually eat the same sort of diet as us ordinary people. But they tend to eat more! More energy in the form of carbohydrates, more protein, more vitamins and more minerals.

When they eat can also be very important. Sports people need enough energy for intensive training and must refuel afterwards. Eating more isn't enough to build-up muscles. Muscles are built by a combination of a healthy diet and strength training.

Sports dietitians recommend that athletes eat beef as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Iron is especially important for sports people. Intensive training can reduce iron levels. Therefore eating beef can help athletes to maintain their stores of this vital mineral.
