- Between 1995 and 2003, obesity among children aged 2 - 10 rose from 9.9% to 13.7%.
- 27.7% of children were overweight in 2003.
- In the North East, the childhood obesity level was 18.3%. The lowest level was 11.4% in Yorkshire and the Humber.
- Obesity was higher among children living in inner city areas than among children living in all other areas.
- The level of obesity among children in the poorest areas was 16.4%, compared to 11.2% for children in the richest areas.
